Jeffrey Gouweleeuw Injury: Suffers new MCL injury

Gouweleeuw suffered a renewed medial ligament injury against Stuttgart on Sunday and will need to undergo a surgery, the club announced.

Gouweleeuw played 28 minutes in Sunday's 3-2 loss against Stuttgart after returning from an MCL injury that had sidelined him for five games. Unfortunately, the Augsburg captain suffered a recurrence of the same injury during his appearance and will need surgery, which will keep him out for some time. Keven Schlotterbeck is expected to have a larger role in the back three until Gouweleeuw returns to full fitness.
