Chase Shugart News: DFA'd by Pittsburgh

The Pirates designated Shugart for assignment Thursday, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The move makes room on the 40-man roster for first baseman Ryan O'Hearn, who agreed to a two-year, $29 million contract with the Pirates on Dec. 23. Shugart spent most of the 2025 season in the majors with the Pirates and posted a 3.40 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, five holds and a 31:17 K:BB across 45 innings.
