Jose Barrero News: Opts for free agency

Barrero cleared waivers and elected free agency Friday.

The Cardinals designated Barrero for assignment Tuesday, and he's opting to pursue opportunities elsewhere rather than sticking around in the organization. The utility player logged a .470 OPS in 31 plate appearances with St. Louis this season, but he slashed .299/.396/.517 in 101 plate appearances at Triple-A Memphis prior to his April 28 call-up to the Cardinals.
