Greg Chalmers

Chalmers consistently is among the putting leaders on the tour, but it hasn't been enough to sustain him. He did win the Barracuda last season, giving him a two-year exemption, but it was his lone top-25. He should make more than 12 starts, but expect a lean season ahead.

Chalmers has teed it up 338 times in his career on the PGA Tour and yet he has only two top-3 finishes to show for it. He's banked over $8 million in earnings, but he's never quite found that extra gear. It's unlikely that he ever will, on the PGA Tour anyway. He's not worth the price in salary cap leagues and might go undrafted as well.

Chalmers has been at this for a long time, but it's only been recently that he's figured out how to stay active on the PGA TOUR. This season is Chalmer's fifth consecutive on the PGA TOUR, and if the trend continues, he'll do enough to secure his card for next year, but not much more. As such, Chalmers is not a good option in salary cap leagues. In draft leagues, look for him in the eighth round.

Chalmers successfully retained his PGA TOUR card for the third consecutive season last year and though that's a feat in of itself, Chalmers seems unable to earn much more than $1 million. Last year, the bulk of his earnings came in the first half of the season, as he essentially secured his card by the beginning of May. The security didn't improve his play, however, as it was all down hill after that.

Chalmers had some success early in his career only to fall on hard times for a number of years before an eventual comeback. Chalmers played well in spots last year, specifically at the RBC Canadian Open where he finished fourth and the Zurich Classic where he finished fifth. He finished in the top 25 six times in 2010. Chalmers will likely play well enough to maintain his card this year, but his ceiling is limited. Chalmers has plenty of value in rotisserie leagues, however, as he's a great putter. He ranked first on the PGA TOUR in 2008, ninth in 2009 and 13th last year.

Prior to the 2009 season, Chalmers' biggest professional highlight was his fourth place finish at the 2000 PGA Championship, just behind Tiger Woods and Bob May. Since that event, Chalmers has rotated between the PGA TOUR and the Nationwide Tour , but a runner-up finish at the Buick Open last season secured his card for the 2010 season. Chalmers is a break or two away from putting up some decent production; and though he's probably not at the top of the list of potential breakout stars, Chalmers has been close enough to the pinnacle to understand what it takes to get there.
