Scott Brown

Since a rough rookie season in 2012, Brown has been remarkably consistent as a member of the PGA Tour. Brown has successfully retained his card in each of the past seven seasons and he's finished below the $1 million mark just once during that time. The problem with Brown is, he hasn't shown much of an upside over the past seven seasons. He topped-out at just over $1.7 million in 2017, which means his upside is not high enough to risk a salary cap spot.

Brown picked up a win in his second season on the PGA Tour, which propelled him over $1 million for the first time in his career. In the five seasons since, Brown has topped $1 million in each season. He peaked in 2017 when he posted two runner-up finishes on his way to more than $1.7 million. Brown is nothing if not consistent, but after six seasons on the PGA Tour, it's clear that he doesn't have a ton of upside. Brown makes for a solid late-round draft selection, but he's not a good salary cap option for this season.

Last season was Brown's best season on the PGA Tour and it was his fifth consecutive season more than $1 million in earnings. While the improvement was impressive, he remains stuck in the land between $1-2 million in earnings. Brown's jump in earnings last season was built upon his two runner-up showings, but those were his only top10s last season. Brown certainly has room to improve and we've yet to see his full potential, but whereas he was a solid salary cap pick last year at more than $1 million in earnings, his price for this season is too steep.

Scott Brown first won on the PGA Tour in 2013 and oddly enough, he's outgained his earnings number from that season in each of the past three years, but hasn't won during that time. That shows that he's become a more consistent golfer over the past few years, but in doing so, he's lost some of his high-end finishes. In fact, he hasn't won or finished runner-up since 2013. While the consistency is great for a draft leagues, it doesn't help much in a salary cap league if its not combined with some high-end finishes. As such, Brown is not a good salary cap option this season. In drafts, he should go near the 10th-round.

Brown was unable to secure his PGA Tour card after his rookie season in 2012, but a win at the Puerto Rico Open in 2013 changed his fortunes. Brown didn't exactly build off that win in 2013, he actually played quite poorly for the remainder of the 2013 season, but the time-off prior to the 2014 season did him wonders as he again found his game, this time for the majority of the season. The worrisome stat on Brown is that it took 30 events to earn just under $1.4 million last year. It's great that he plays so much, but his per-tournament earnings number isn't so great. It's probably wise to take a wait and see position on Brown in salary cap formats this season. In draft leagues he looks like a 8th round pick.

Brown picked up a win last year in Puerto Rico, an event that's never been confused with the Masters, but hey, a win's a win. With that said, he didn't get much done outside that win, so his prospects for the 2014 season don't look very good. His win from last season makes it too difficult to take him in a salary cap league.

Brown was a hit-or-miss player on the Nationwide Tour last season as he missed the cut often but also played well enough to creep into the Top 10 on the money list. While it's hard to bank on hit-and-miss golfers, they often find success early in their careers. Look for Brown to put it all together a couple times this season.
