Nearing return to lineup
Carpenter, who is on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, could be activated in a swap for Nico Sturm, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Carpenter has missed four straight matches due to his undisclosed injury but seems to be nearly ready to play. With just one goal in 18 games this year, the 32-year-old center is unlikely to offer much in the way of fantasy value and figures to take on a bottom-six role once given the all-clear.

2018
Carpenter has carved out an NHL role with a high-energy approach. Last year, that translated to 15 points and 117 hits in 69 games for the Blackhawks. He's versatile enough to play any of the three forward positions in a bottom-six capacity, and he should be able to skate at least 14 minutes per game for a Blackhawks team that's in store for a rough year. While the scoring numbers are unlikely to pop off the page, in the deepest formats, Carpenter's physicality and shorthanded scoring could be a benefit. Most fantasy managers can leave him off their roster, however.
