Perez completed 26 of 36 passes for 288 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions and added six rushes for 10 yards during the Renegades' 35-26 win over the Defenders in the XFL Championship Game on Saturday night. He also committed two fumbles, losing one, and threw a two-point conversion pass on his way to garnering the game's MVP award.
ANALYSIS
As was often the case since taking over as the Renegades' starting quarterback following a Week 7 trade from the Vipers, Perez was in impressive command of Arlington's offense. In the case of Saturday, the spring league veteran was masterful right from the start, throwing a 41-yard touchdown pass to Sal Cannella just four minutes into the contest and then leading a 16-play, 88-yard march that consumed almost nine minutes and which he capped off with a nine-yard touchdown to Tyler Vaughns and subsequent two-point conversion pass to De'Veon Smith. Perez's steady play would also be critical during a second half in which the Defenders kept the pressure on with multiple scoring drives of their own, and his 30-yard scoring toss to Leddie Brown on the last play of the third quarter quickly answered a 72-yard touchdown reception by Josh Hammond. Perez's strong second half of the season and stellar postseason may certainly be enough to earn him another shot with an NFL team this summer after having previously spent time with the Rams and Lions.
