Closer Watch - A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (also check out our Closer Grid)

New York (NL) - After blowing his previous two opportunities, Francisco Rodriguez picked up his 20th save of the season with a perfect ninth inning in Thursday's game. Rodriguez has been fairly hittable lately - 11 of the 13 runs he has allowed have come in his last 12 outings - but he is not in any real danger of losing the closer's role for the Mets.

Minnesota - Joe Nathan was activated from the 15-day disabled list Friday, but Matt Capps remains the Twins' closer. Nathan will join the middle relief corps initially.

San Francisco - Despite giving up his first run since May 18, Wilson was able to close out Thursday's game and secure a 2-1 victory for the Giants. Wilson has allowed a lot more runners this year than last - 1.44 WHIP in 2011 compared to 1.18 in 2010 - but he has still been able to notch 21 saves and five victories while posting a respectable 2.65 ERA.

Recommended Pickup

Carlos Carrasco, SP, CLE - The Indians have gotten strong performances from their young pitchers this season - Justin Masterson has a 3.18 ERA and Josh Tomlin already has nine wins - but Carrasco has been the most impressive of late. Over his last seven outings, Carrasco has posted a 6-1 record to go along with a 2.80 ERA and 29:10 BB:K ratio over 45 innings. Carrasco is not a big strikeout guy, but he has done a good job avoiding blow-ups, allowing more than three runs in a game just three times since Opening Day and giving up just four home runs on the season. Carrasco's consistency, recent numbers, and the quality Indians team he plays for make him a potential add if you are looking for starting pitching help.

Other recent recommendations:Alexi Casilla, Jeff Keppinger, Mike Adams, Alcides Escobar, Andrew Miller
