Closer Watch

Minnesota Twins – With All-Star closer Glen Perkins shut down for the season with a forearm strain, the Twins will hand the ball to Jared Burton in end-game situations to finish the season. The team announced the decision to pull Perkins for the team's remaining games Friday, ending a successful 2014 campaign that saw him convert 34 saves in 41 chances. He did, however, blow three of his last five. Perkins pitched through a similar injury each of the last two seasons, but Burton will continue to receive a chance to fill in. A veteran reliever, Burton is a solid option for the last remaining days of the fantasy season for owners looking to pick up a few cheap saves to nail down a championship.

Recommended Pickup

Clay Buchholz, P, BOS – The Red Sox are in the process of completing a cycle of sandwiching a World Series championship between two last-place finishes in the AL East. The incredibly volatile nature of the team's peaks and valleys runs concurrent with Buchholz's career trajectory. Last season, the oft-injured hurler served as an immensely valuable part of Boston's rotation that made its improbable championship run possible. As good as he was in the starts he made during the regular season in 2013, he has been just as underwhelming this year. Fantasy owners need not look at the ugly ERA or WHIP, only the fact he has been remarkable in four of his last five outings. Grab him for his start Wednesday against the Rays and hope he duplicates the Aug. 31 complete game shutout of Tampa Bay he orchestrated in his last start against his division rival.
