Closer Watch

Marlins – Steve Cishek continued his rebound from a period of ineffectiveness during late June and early July on Monday in Atlanta. He tossed his third straight scoreless, hitless inning for his second save in two days, but it could be one of his last in a Miami uniform, as trade rumors are swirling around him. If Cishek does get shipped out of town, the recently activated A.J. Ramos (shoulder) would seem to be the favorite to replace him as closer.

White Sox – Jake Petricka collected his fourth save Monday, working around a hit to preserve a three-run lead. This remains a committee situation with Petricka, Zach Putnam and a little of Ronald Belisario, but Matt Lindstrom's on the mend; once he's back, the South Siders will likely look to Lindstrom to solidify the ninth inning and bring stability to the bullpen.

Recommended Pickup
Brandon McCarthy, SP, NYY – It was easy to dismiss McCarthy upon being shipped to the Yankees – he'd been sent off to the American League, and to a park that kills right-handed pitchers. But his first two turns in pinstripes have been admirable efforts, with Saturday's start particularly impressive: six innings, one run, nine strikeouts and no walks. McCarthy's 4.63 ERA and 1.37 WHIP don't jive with the way he's pitched – he's throwing harder than ever and striking guys out at a solid rate while walking precious few. McCarthy's been killed by BABIP and strand-rate luck; those are going to keep normalizing, and he's going to be a legit asset to fantasy owners down the stretch. He's currently criminally under-owned in both ESPN and Yahoo leagues (3 and 9 percent, respectively), while his CBS ownership (42 percent) could stand to rise as well.

Other Recent Recommendations: Danny Salazar, Chris Young, Travis d'Arnaud, Jacob deGrom
