Closer Watch

Rays -- After hitting the skids for a while, Brad Boxberger's righted the ship, allowing just a single run over his last 10 appearances. He worked around a pair of hits Monday for his 27th save, and it doesn't look like Jake McGee (who pitched the eighth and picked up the win) is going to get too many more this year.

Mariners -- Carson Smith gave up three hits and a run in the ninth Monday, but also struck out two en route to his 10th save of the season. You want to give the guy a break – after all, the M's are in Colorado this week – but Smith has been scored upon in four of his last five outings. There has to be some level of concern here that Fernando Rodney will get his chances in save situations again despite not doing much to earn those duties.

Giants -- Santiago Casilla picked up his fifth blown save Monday, giving up three hits, a walk and two runs while recording just two outs. Casilla's WHIP is now at a hideously inflated 1.47, as he's actually been one of the least effective members of the Giants' bullpen. His blowups have been a bit too infrequent for Bruce Bochy to kick him from the ninth inning, but Casilla seems to be playing with fire every time he comes out. It's not a bad time to snag Sergio Romo off the wire for a buck or two.

Recommended Pickup
Jesus Montero, DH, SEA – If you saw how ripped Montero looked in spring training, you probably took a flier on him in deep leagues, only to be frustrated by the Mariners depositing him in Triple-A Tacoma for most of the year. Well, the 25-year-old hit .346 with 16 homers and 75 RBI in 93 games for Tacoma, and now he's back with the team that once upon a time traded Michael Pineda to the Yankees for him. So far, so good – Montero's started three of the Mariners' four games since being brought back up, going 5-for-12 with three doubles and a homer. He's expected to get near-everyday run from here on out, and the fantasy community has been slow to react. As they say at the ballgame, "Post-hype sleepers! Get your post-hype sleepers here!" Or something like that.
