Closer Watch – A closer look at intriguing ninth-inning situations (also check out our Closer Grid)

Philadelphia Phillies – With Ryan Madson having pitched on three consecutive days Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the Phillies opted to go with Antonio Bastardo in the save situation Sunday. Bastardo blew the save, providing Madson, is sideways gesture, some added job security going forward.

San Diego Padres – Heath Bell blew the save Sunday but walked away with the win. He's about as safe as a pitcher comes to being nailed to mound when it's closing time.

Toronto Blue Jays – Jesse Litsch was the last Blue Jays player to record a traditional save, nearly two weeks ago. Casey Janssen picked up a three-inning save Sunday, and with Jon Rauch on the DL, the closer situation in Canada is pretty murky. Frank Francisco is the interim closer, but he was unable to enter the game Sunday due to shoulder soreness.

Recommended Pickup

Alex White, SP, COL – White will be called up to start Tuesday's game against the Astros. He's been on the 60-day DL working through a strained ligament injury in his middle finger. While on the DL, he was traded from the Indians to the Rockies as arguably the key piece of the Ubaldo Jimenez trade. Through 40 innings in the minors this season, he's posted a 1.80 ERA with a 38:6 K:BB ratio. The Rockies should keep him in the rotation the rest of the season as long as he doesn't implode on the mound. If you're looking for an exciting arm to add based on potential, White would be a good guy to grab for at least a spot start Tuesday.

Other recent recommendations:Ramon Ramirez, Mike Trout, Stephen Strasburg, Will Venable, Mike Carp
