Closer Watch

Padres –Huston Street picked up save No. 33 of the season in Monday's 4-1 win over the Diamondbacks, pitching a perfect ninth inning and striking out a batter. Street missed some time in June and July, but has otherwise given the Padres everything they could ask for and then some. He's converted 33-of-34 save opportunities this season, and owns a 2.47 ERA despite surrendering 11 home runs in just 54.2 innings. The 11 home runs, along with an unspectacular 41:12 K/BB ratio, make Street a candidate to regress in 2014, so it may not be worthwhile to invest heavily in him come draft day.

Recommended Pickup

Matt Davidson, 3B, ARI – With the non-contending Diamondbacks beginning to assess their options for 2014 at this point in the season, young players like Davidson, Chris Owings and Adam Eaton have begun to see an increase in at-bats. Davidson in particular has seemed to make the most of the surge in starts, batting 9-for-26 (.346) with three homers and eight RBI over the last two weeks. Given that he slugged 17 homers and batted .280/.350/.481 over 115 games at Triple-A Reno earlier in the season, it's not unreasonable to expect Davidson to continue sustaining his current run of success on some level. At the very least, Davidson should receive plenty of at-bats in the season's final week to prove he's ready to handle the third base job on a full-time basis in 2014, making him a worthy target in NL-only and deeper mixed leagues.
