2026 Fantasy Outlook
It is incredible Toronto came within a centimeter of winning the World Series when you consider the team's primary offseason signing was a complete bust. Santander failed to launch anything in Toronto just one season off his career season, as he was hitting .179/.273/.304 through his first 209 plate appearances before a harsh collision with an outfield wall led to a shoulder injury that kept him on the injured list until the final week of the regular season. Santander got four games in with just one hit over those contests and eventually had to be yanked from the postseason roster in the ALCS due to back issues, which ended his season. It is expected big contracts in new places will struggle in year one, but even the biggest pessimist could not have imagined this type of season for Santander. Worse yet, for fantasy purposes, Santander has lost his outfield eligibility is most formats, so he is utility only. The silver lining is that his acquisition cost in drafts may be even lower than it should be considering his potential to rebound to a more realistic 2023 level of production assuming his body is done failing him in 2026.
