2026 Fantasy Outlook
After having his career seemingly derailed by injuries a few years ago, Boyd has had a nice second act the last few seasons. In 2024, the veteran lefty looked sharp for Cleveland across eight starts toward the end of the year after returning from Tommy John surgery. Boyd parlayed that into a two-year, $29 million contract with the Cubs before the start of the 2025 season, and he managed to mostly sustain his strong form from the year before. The southpaw posted a 3.21 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 154 strikeouts across 179.2 innings, with that workload his largest since 2019. Boyd's velocity has stayed intact following his surgery, and the 92.8 mph average fastball he clocked in 2025 actually represented a new career high. Heading into 2026, Boyd seems well positioned to build on the last two years, and he could very well see his workload tick upward as well. The 34-year-old may see his ratios get a little worse with a higher volume of innings, but he could also see his wins and strikeouts increase, making Boyd an attractive mid-tier fantasy option.
