Typically among the slowest pitchers in pace, Gallegos had trouble adjusting to MLB's new pitch clock in 2023. He didn't have too many pitch timer violations (3), but his performance may have been affected by the new rule. Gallegos posted his worst ratios since joining the Cardinals in 2018, while his 25.8% strikeout rate was the 2nd-worst mark of his career. The 32-year-old continued to limit free passes - his 5.2% walk rate was 8th-best among qualified relievers - but he gave up far too many home runs (11) across his 55 innings (1.8 HR/9). On the plus side, Gallegos racked up double-digit saves for the third straight year, along with 20 holds.
