One positive the Orioles could take away from their disastrous 2025 season was the ability to give a talented youngster like Mayo some leash at the major-league level. Mayo was essentially an everyday player over the final two months of the season, and after slashing an ugly .136/.208/.261 with a 37.5 percent strikeout rate in August, the 24-year-old rebounded with a .301/.393/.548 batting line and five home runs in September. The former top prospect should enter the 2026 campaign as an everyday player for Baltimore, likely between first base and designated hitter. Mayo's hard-hit rate in the majors (34.5 percent) barely exceeds his strikeout rate (31.2 percent), which is scary, but his minor-league track record points to the right-handed hitter eventually becoming a slugger in the big leagues.
