2026 Fantasy Outlook
Tolbert stopped prank calling Jake Taylor and had an interesting season as the next iteration of a role the Royals' roster always seems to have present. Like Terrance Gore and Jarrod Dyson before him, Tolbert's role was to sit on the bench until his speed was needed to come in and swipe bags. Tolbert played in 64 games with just 57 plate appearances, and became just the fifth player since 1961 to steal 20 or more bases with fewer than 60 plate appearances in a season. The other four all played in the 1970s, including the great Herb Washington who exclusively pinch-ran for the 1974 Athletics. Tolbert stole 252 bases in 272 attempts in the minor leagues and has been an incredible 89.8% successful in his stolen base attempts across all levels and leages in his career dating back to 2019. All that said, there is no way this skillset can live in an everyday lineup at the major league level for a team wishing to contend for the postseason. Expect Tolbert to resume his speciality role off the bench because Kansas City always has someone like this on the roster these days, but the path to fantasy viability is incrediblity limited.
