Ineffective relievers don't typically make effective starters, but Pallante bucked that trend in 2024. After collecting a 4.96 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 49/35 K/BB over 78 innings covering 71 relief appearances from the start of 2023 through the first month of this past season, Pallante was sent down to Triple-A Memphis to get stretched out as a starter. He returned with a new sinker to help soften his career-long reverse splits and proceeded to post a 3.56 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 88/43 K/BB across 111.1 frames in 20 starts the rest of the way. An 18.5 percent strikeout rate and 9.4 percent walk rate might lead you to believe the results were fluky, but Pallante's xERA (3.39) was well below his actual ERA (3.78), thanks to his elite ability to induce grounders (98th percentile) and avoid the barrel (98th percentile). It's not an exciting fantasy profile because he doesn't miss bats, but Pallante nonetheless looks like a quality big-league starter. Read Past Outlooks
