Dobnak signed a five-year, $9.25 million contract extension with Minnesota just before the 2021 season and looked set to be part of the starting rotation, but then had his career sidetracked due to a finger injury. Dobnak had ligaments called pulleys in his right middle finger rupture over two years. He overcame the issue to pitch in Triple-A the past two seasons but has had contol issues by allowing too many walks. He's been called up to the majors when the Twins needed an extra bullpen arm because even though he's out of minor league options, no other team will likely claim his contract when he's passed through waivers when being sent down.
