Things went as poorly in 2025 as they did go well for Francis in 2024. The older rookie burst onto the scene in 2024 flirting with no-hitters seemingly every night out and wowed us with unhittable splitters. Fantasy managers expected some regression because a .211 BABIP and 78.3% LOB% is extremely tough for a starting pitcher to sustain, but the larger problem for Francis in 2025 was an acute case of gopheritis. Francis struggled with in-zone command of his pitches and left too much up and out over the plate which resulted in 19 home runs in just 64 innings pitched. The fastball and splitter combination which had limited the opposition to a .172 average the season prior was hit at a .317 clip last season while also serving as the transit for 16 of his 19 home runs. Bowden was shut down with shoulder impingement in early July and never returned, so his status for 2026 remains a question mark until the team is back in Dunedin. It is tough to work on a third pitch while on rehab, but Francis desperately needs a third pitch to stick in the Toronto rotation. Otherwise, he could find success in the bullpen as he turns 30 in late April. Read Past Outlooks
