Wolf has made steady progress in the minors since being picked in the fourth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, and the Pirates acquired Wolf from the Padres at the trade deadline of the 2023 season -- shortly after he made his big-league debut. He uses a sidearm delivery from the left side and an above-average slider to get outs, which he's been able to do consistently to this point. The novelty of that approach could wear off in the majors, particularly because he lacks velocity. If he sticks as a starter, that limits his upside. His ultimate home could be the bullpen, but the Pirates are likely to try to develop him as a starter for as long as possible. While it isn't likely to come on Opening Day, Wolf should get a substantial chance in Pittsburgh in 2024 and his minor-league results tell us he's worth keeping an eye on. Read Past Outlooks
