An undersized (5-foot-10, 162 pounds) 26-year-old righty with no big-league experience, Castano was added to the Mariners' 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. Castano originally signed with the Yankees in 2018 out of the Dominican Republic but was released in 2023, which is when Seattle signed him. He split 2024 between Double-A and Triple-A, logging an excellent 53.5 percent groundball rate, but a mediocre 12.0 K-BB% in 125.1 innings. He only pitches out of the stretch and may make his big-league debut as a reliever, but Castano has enough pitches to be a back-end starter if injuries were to clear a path in 2025. Read Past Outlooks
