It didn't work out for La Stella in San Francisco. The 34-year-old was limited to just 136 games in two years with the Giants due to various injuries and produced a lowly .677 OPS when he was healthy. It was nagging soreness with his surgically-repaired Achilles, a bout with COVID-19 and finally neck spasms that he dealt with in 2022. La Stella entered the offseason healthy, but the Giants decided they had had enough and cut him loose, eating the $11.5 million he's owed in 2023. The veteran utility player quickly latched on with the Mariners and will serve in a bench role for them this season.
