Allen made the Athletics' Opening Day roster last season but spent only five games with the big club and was eventually traded to the Cardinals in August. He posted an .837 OPS with seven home runs over 55 games in his third stint at Triple-A, which is actually a major step down from Allen's previous efforts at that level. The 29-year-old has looked overmatched during his brief opportunities in the majors, though, and his defense behind the plate isn't a strong suit.
