Kevin McGonigle

21-Year-Old ShortstopSS
Detroit Tigers AA
2026 Fantasy Outlook
There are still some questions about how much power and speed McGonigle will provide in fantasy, but he is undeniably the best pure hitter in the minors and should spend the majority of 2026 in the big leagues. The lefty-hitting infielder slashed .305/.408/.583 with a 14.9 percent walk rate and 11.6 percent strikeout rate in 88 games across Single-A, High-A and Double-A last year while missing time early with an ankle injury. He stole 22 bases on 24 attempts in 2024 but was 10-for-17 in 2025, and he has never been an explosive athlete. Even so, he'll be on base so much during his prime that he could compile double-digit steals any given year. A likely leadoff or No. 2 hitter as early as this summer, McGonigle's power upside is debatable. He won't create buzz with huge exit velocities, but he could be a Jose Ramirez or Francisco Lindor type who gets to 30-homer power via an elite hit tool and compact stroke. The Tigers have a plethora of limited defenders among their prospects and young big leaguers, so things would fit much better if the 5-foot-10 McGonigle could handle shortstop, but most scouts think he'll have to move to the keystone. He'll enter his age-21 season eligible at shortstop but should add second base eligibility shortly after joining the big-league roster, which could be as early as Opening Day. Read Past Outlooks
