Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Jackson's 155 plate appearances with Tampa Bay last season were his most ever as a big-leaguer, but he failed to take advantage, posting a paltry .438 OPS with a 34.2% strikeout rate. He did show a bit of pop with eight homers in 28 games at the Triple-A level, but he's yet to make an impact in the power department in the majors, belting just six long balls across 302 career at-bats. Jackson was traded to the Yankees in December and could take over as New York's No. 2 backstop with Jose Trevino sent to Cincinnati in the same deal, but it's also very possible that the organization will look to fill the role with a player who has demonstrated more success as a hitter. Orioles manager Tony Mansolino confirmed prior to Sunday's 12-0 win over the Astros that Jackson will serve as the team's No. 3 catcher behind Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo moving forward, Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun reports.
Analysis
Widely regarded as one of the organization's top prospects, Basallo was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday and entered the lineup at designated hitter for the series finale with Houston. While Rutschman is likely to see the bulk of the starts behind the plate for the rest of the season, Mansolino indicated that Basallo will be the top choice to handle catching duties when Rutschman needs a day off or is deployed as a DH. With that in mind, Jackson -- who had been serving as Rutschman's top understudy -- appears likely to see his already limited opportunities dwindle further over the final six weeks of the season. Jackson is slashing .227/.292/.591 with three home runs, four RBI and 11 runs over 48 plate appearances for Baltimore since being acquired from the Yankees on July 6.

Jackson spent all 2023 in Triple-A, first with Triple-A Nashville, and then with Triple-A Durham after the Brewers exchanged minor leaguers with the Rays who sent Evan McKendry to the Milwaukee organization. Jackson has spent parts of four seasons in the majors, with his longest stint in 2021 when he posted an anemic .488 OPS in 52 games. Last season in 59 combined games, Jackson recorded a .902 OPS, which impressed the Rays enough to bring him back on a minor league deal. Jackson missed the final month of the season with a shoulder injury, but he's slated to challenge for a job behind the plate with the Rays. If he makes the club, Jackson is only in play in AL-only formats using two catchers, and even then, there are probably better options.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could return to Milwaukee
Jackson may be recalled to the Brewers to serve as backup catcher after Omar Narvaez was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Thursday.
Analysis
The Brewers are in need of a backup catcher after announcing that Omar Narvaez has been placed on the COVID-19 injured list. Both Jackson and Mario Feliciano are on the 40-man roster and playing at Triple-A Nashville. Jackson has appeared in the big leagues in each of the last four seasons and played three games -- two starts -- for the Brewers earlier this season. Better known for his defense, the 26-year-old has hit an underwhelming .139/.244/.228 in 180 plate appearances at the major-league level.
