To say Adams had a strange season in 2021 would be an understatement. He was brilliant in certain categories, as his .164 xBA, 0.17 HR/9, 24.5% hard hit percentage and 13.0 K/9 all ranked near the top of the league among qualified relievers. However, his slider (87% pitch%) often didn't find the plate, leading to a 6.0 BB/9 that was sixth-worst among relievers while setting the live-ball era single-season record with 24 HBPs. There was also a stark contrast in Adams' home and road splits. He was outstanding at Petco Park, firing a 0.37 ERA, 0.62 WHIP and 15.9 K/9 at home versus a 7.39 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 on the road. The potential is there for Adams to become an elite closer if learns how to harness his control. Until then, he'll continue to be part of the bridge to whomever closes in San Diego, as he's under team control for three more seasons.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Oakland could deal
According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Athletics may be willing to trade Adams this summer.
ANALYSIS
Closer Mason Miller isn't expected to be dealt, but Oakland may be more willing to trade the likes of Adams or Lucas Erceg. Adams has bounced around since making his MLB debut in 2017, but he's filled a high-leverage role this season with 15 holds and a 3.57 ERA across 32 appearances. The right-hander has a 1.63 WHIP and 6.0 BB/9, however, so contending teams aren't likely to offer much for a mostly volatile reliever.
