ANALYSIS
Garcia made four starts in the big leagues for Detroit in 2022, but after landing in Houston in February on a minor-league deal, he never pitched well enough at Triple-A Sugar Land to earn a look with the Astros. Over his 49 innings in the Pacific Coast League, Garcia pitched to a 6.98 ERA, 2.14 WHIP and 39:45 K:BB.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2021
Garcia looked good in a small sample with the Tigers in 2022, posting a 3.54 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 17 strikeouts across 20.1 innings. That was much better than the 7.55 ERA and 1.86 WHIP he registered in 39.1 innings a season earlier. Which pitcher he resembles moving forward will determine if he's able to stick in an MLB bullpen. He was outrighted to Triple-A Toledo following the regular season, though he figures to challenge for a relief role during spring training. If Garcia makes the team, he'll likely work in front of closer Gregory Soto, but he could move up the pecking order if he impresses. The likes of Alex Lange and Joe Jimenez are probably the team's other top relief options, but the rebuilding Tigers are still looking for players to emerge across the roster. That gives Garcia some opportunity moving forward, though for now he's not an ideal fantasy option due to his uncertain role. Check back if he ever starts seeing save chances.
With Joe Jimenez struggling last season, Garcia went on to grab four saves, good for second on the team, potentially setting himself up as the closer in Detroit heading into 2021. While Garcia produced a stellar 1.66 ERA in 21.2 innings, the rest of his statline doesn't paint nearly as impressive of a picture. His 10.8 BB% was poor, though his 12.9 K% was considerably worse. It's not as if he was keeping the ball on the ground at a high clip, either, as his 43.5% groundball rate was roughly average. Garcia owns a modest 23.3 K% at the Triple-A level, so a dramatic increase in whiffs probably isn't coming. His ERA simply came over too small of a sample to believe that he'll keep dramatically outperforming his peripherals, so he'll be a low-tier closer even if he has a clear hold on the job to open 2021, as there's a good chance he won't be able to keep it.

Staying ready
PDetroit Tigers
September 29, 2022
Garcia will continue to work out in Toledo in case the Tigers need him over the last week of the season, reports Evan Woodbery of MLive.com.
ANALYSIS
Garcia spent the bulk of the year with Triple-A Toledo but did have success in three starts for Detroit, posting a 3.29 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 13.2 innings. The Tigers have a doubleheader against Seattle on Oct. 4, and Garcia could be promoted to start one of those contests.
