Rehabbing in Dunedin
Van Eyk (elbow) has struck out eight while allowing one earned run in seven innings across two rehab starts for Single-A Dunedin.
ANALYSIS
He should be nearing a return to High-A Vancouver. Van Eyk underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2021. He has a chance to be a starting pitcher long term if he can throw more strikes than he did pre-injury (11 percent walk rate at High-A in 2021).

James Anderson pinpoints relievers and potential relievers from the minor leagues who could develop into the next great fantasy baseball closer, including recent Angels draftee Ben Joyce.
2021 Fantasy Outlook
Van Eyk, a 6-foot-1, 198-pound righty from Florida State, was selected by Toronto with the No. 42 overall pick in last year's draft. He has a four-pitch mix with a chance for three or more of those offerings to be plus. His walk rates (12.6 percent in 2018, 9.5 percent in 2019, 13.6 percent in an abbreviated 2020) scream future reliever, but his delivery is smooth and athletic, which, coupled with his deep repertoire, should lead to him getting every chance to develop as a starter. The velocity on his fastball has been inconsistent, but he is generally in the 90-95 mph range. Even without premium velocity, he can miss bats with his fastball because of the movement on the pitch. His best pitch is a plus curveball. His changeup will flash plus and he has incorporated a new slider that also has plus potential. If Van Eyk can improve as a strike thrower, he could develop into a No. 2 or No. 3 starter.
