2024 Fantasy Outlook
Holderman's surname was apropos as he recorded a team-leading 27 holds (T-8th in the majors) as the Pirates primary setup man. Armed with an upper-90's sinker, sweeper and cutter, the 28-year-old righty posted solid ratios that would have been even better if not for two poor outings to close out the season. Thumb discomfort may have been to blame for his rough finish, but Holderman's emergence last season was ultimately a boon to Pittsburgh's bullpen. His 24.2 percent strikeout rate was only slightly above league average and he didn't induce many whiffs or get batters to chase. This limits his overall upside, but his 52.8 percent ground ball rate was a top-30 statistic among relief pitchers.
