ANALYSIS
Overton signed a minor-league deal with the Mets in February and allowed two runs in 5.1 innings during spring training, but he'll now have to look for his next opportunity with another club. The 31-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2023, and he accumulated a 9.12 ERA and 1.74 WHIP in 24.2 innings with the Reds' Triple-A affiliate last season.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Overton was a nice story for the Reds early in the 2022 season, posting a 1.82 ERA and 0.89 WHIP over four starts in April and May. Unfortunately, that's when he went down with a stress reaction in his lower back which wound up sidelining him for nearly four months before he made a late-season return as a reliever. As a 29-year-old who had just a 14:11 K:BB over 33 innings, Overton's numbers warrant plenty of skepticism. He didn't produce weak contact or induce grounders, and he managed to give up just one homer even though two of his starts came at Great American Ball Park and one was at Coors Field. Overton deserves a chance to compete for a rotation spot, but it's unlikely he'll be fantasy relevant even if he wins one.

Luis Cessa could perhaps be leapfrogged as well if Overton shows a little more swing-and-miss upside in camp this spring.
