2025 Projections
Needs season-ending hip surgery
Head will undergo season-ending left hip femoral acetabular impingement surgery Friday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Head's season ends after just 26 games, with only five of them coming in the Marlins organization after he was acquired from the Padres in the May 3 trade that sent infielder Luis Arraez to San Diego. The 19-year-old outfielder is expected to have a normal offseason and be fully ready for the start of spring training.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
The big question with Head is how much he will impact the baseball. A premium athlete who should be at least a plus defensive center fielder, Head was selected by the Padres with the 25th overall pick in 2023 and received an under-slot $2.8 million bonus. A lefty hitter who turned 19 this offseason, Head had a 15.3 K% across rookie ball and Single-A, and he shouldn't have any trouble making contact at an acceptable clip below Double-A. However, if he's simply dumping singles into the opposite field and rarely looking to pull the ball in the air, that would be a red flag, even if the overall stat line looks solid. His top fantasy-relevant tool is 70-grade speed that could translate into 30-plus steals in the majors.
