2026 Projections
Won't be part of Rule 5 Draft
The Rays selected Keegan's contract from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Analysis
Keegan was a fourth-round selection in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft. The catcher reached Triple-A for the first time last season and put together a .241/.306/.429 slash line with 10 home runs and 36 RBI over 297 plate appearances. The pop was promising, but Keegan also struck out at a 30.6 clip with Durham -- a rate much higher than in his previous minor-league stops. If he can impress with the bat early in the 2026 season, Keegan could make his MLB debut next year.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Keegan was a 1B/C type at Vanderbilt and the Rays took him as a catcher in the fourth round of the 2022 draft. He primarily served as a catcher in 2023 with 80 of his 106 games played coming at the catching position while he hit .287/.386/.467 between two levels of A ball. The Rotowire staff who attended the Arizona Fall League saw Keegan play in the AFL where he hit well while catching everyday, but it was obvious to all of us that his development as an overall catcher is a work in progress. The biggest fault with Keegan behind the plate is his throwing arm simply is not up to snuff, which is a detriment in today's modern running game where many baserunners are looking to take advantage of the new rules and conditions. While Keegan did catch 30 of 100 attempted basestealers in A ball, he was just 5 of 40 in the AFL. Simply put, the bat is what will have to carry Keegan's fantasy future because his catching future at the upper levels is rather clouded.

Chance to join 40-man roster?
Keegan is the Rays' most likely minor leaguer to be added to the 40-man roster ahead of the Rule 5 Draft, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times.
Analysis
The 25-year-old catcher made his way to the Triple-A level in 2025 and posted a .241/.306/.429 slash line with 10 homers in 69 games with Durham. Keegan isn't one of Tampa Bay's top prospects, so the organization may be willing to risk him being selected during the Rule 5 Draft rather than adding him to the 40-man roster.
