2026 Projections
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Quero was promoted for his big-league debut in late April of 2025 and spent the rest of the season in Chicago. He carried over the solid contact rate he displayed throughout his time in the minors, as he limited his strikeout rate to only 17.6 percent while getting on base at a solid .333 clip. The discouraging part of his profile was a lack of quality contact. After tweaking his swing in 2024 to access more power, Quero posted a barrel rate of only 3.7 percent paired with a 50 percent groundball rate in his first taste of the majors. The end result was only five home runs and a .088 ISO, reminiscent of past seasons from Keibert Ruiz and Gabriel Moreno. Team context cuts both ways for Quero. Kyle Teel joins him as one of the best young hitters on the team, potentially causing a timeshare at catcher, but the poor lineup around them allowed Quero to pick up plenty of plate appearances at DH even when he wasn't behind the dish. Quero also spent most of the season hitting in the middle of the lineup, which could help him rack up counting stats despite the poor supporting cast. Overall, it's reasonable to project a step forward for Quero in 2026, but a .260 batting average with low double-digit homers is a realistic expectation. Read Past Outlooks
Works on swing at Driveline
Quero visited Driveline Baseball last week with a goal of increasing his bat speed and improving his launch angle, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis
Quero had a healthy 46.3 percent hard-hit rate and 90.4 mph average exit velocity during his rookie season, but his bat speed ranked in the fourth percentile and his average launch angle ranked in the 7th percentile. An assessment determined Quero was lacking lower-body strength, so he was given drills to help increase his explosiveness and add more bat speed. He also had a pull-air rate of just 7.8 percent last season, and the instructors at Driveline worked with him on catching the ball in front of the plate in order to pull the ball with authority. Quero had a solid .268/.333/.356 batting line in his rookie season and sported a 17.9 percent strikeout rate, but he swatted just five home runs. If the young switch hitter is able to boost his power while maintaining his quality eye at the dish, he could break through. Quero is set to share catching duties with Kyle Teel in 2026 and is also expected to see ample starts at designated hitter for the White Sox.

Stat Review
How does Edgar Quero compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.
* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2023
Quero likely would have made his big-league debut late last season had a mid-August back injury not cost him most of the final month-plus. He made a mechanical adjustment early in the season and slashed .333/.410/.527 with nine home runs, a 15.7 percent strikeout rate and a 9.6 percent walk rate in his final 56 games split between Double-A and Triple-A. That would be a major development for any prospect, but particularly for a 21-year-old switch-hitting catcher in the upper levels of the minors. He's the same age as the college catchers from last year's draft class, yet he'll likely be the Opening Day starter behind the dish, as he'll be eligible to net the White Sox a Prospect Promotion Incentive pick and he doesn't have anything left to prove at Triple-A. Quero's top competition for playing time, Korey Lee, has been worth negative fWAR in all three MLB seasons, but Kyle Teel, who was acquired this offseason from Boston in the Garrett Crochet deal, could join the big-league mix in the first half.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Drawing trade interest
The White Sox have received multiple trade inquiries about Quero, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.
Analysis
Kyle Teel is likely the White Sox' long-term answer at catcher, and while Quero is still in line to play quite a bit between catcher and designated hitter, it makes sense for the team to at least explore trade offers. Quero, who turns 23 in April, slashed .268/.333/.356 with five home runs over 111 games during his rookie season and is under team control through 2031.
