Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Julien looked set to become a MLB regular and possibly a star entering last season, but took a big step backward and his ability to keep a regular MLB job is in question. Julien displayed a mix of exceptional plate discipline and power in 2023 with a .381 OBP and .195 ISO. He began 2024 right where he left off with seven home runs and an .820 OPS in the first month. He struggled in May with a .190 batting average and just a .466 OPS and was soon sent to the minors. When he returned to the majors, he wasn't much better the final two months by hitting one home run with a .509 OPS. Strikeouts were Julien's major issue with a 33.9% K%, up from 31.4% in 2023. His Chase Rate increased to 22.6% from 17.3% in 2023. When he did connect, he didn't have as much power as both his hard-hit rate and barrel rate declined. He still has a strong walk rate (11%) and isn't afraid to work deep into the count. His fielding continues to be an issue where he rated as well below average at second base (-6 Defensive Runs Saved), which could limit his opportunities to 1B and DH. He also had just a .583 OPS against left-handed pitching, which means he's likely limited to a platoon. Still, he displayed a rare combination of extreme place discipline and surprising power in 2023, so he could bounce back. However, he's likely going to need to win a role at first base or DH this spring. Read Past Outlooks

Late addition to lineup
Julien will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Tigers.
Analysis
The left-handed-hitting Julien had been slated to sit for the second day in a row against a right-handed starter (Jack Flaherty), but Julien will end up moving back into the starting nine after Trevor Larnach (shoulder) was scratched. Kody Clemens will head to the outfield to fill in for Larnach while Julien covers Clemens' usual post at first base.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Julien finished seventh in the AL rookie of the year voting as he looks like a potential star for the Twins. Julien offers a mix of exceptional plate discipline and power. He had a .381 OBP and drew walks at a near league-leading 15.7% clip. He also hit 16 home runs with a .195 ISO and was in the 86th percentile for Barrel Rate. His playing time was limited by platoon issues and his defense, however. He hit just .195 with a .447 OPS against left-handed pitching. He also struggled at times at second base (-3 defensive runs saved) and was blocked by Jorge Polanco (when healthy) which led him to be used frequently at DH and even 1B. The Twins should find a spot for him in the everyday lineup against right-handed pitching and should get more exposure to left-handed pitching as he develops.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Possible trade bait
The Twins might consider trading Julien this winter, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Analysis
While the Twins are keeping a close eye on payroll, they don't need to be in any rush to trade Julien since he's not yet eligible for arbitration. However, the 25-year-old isn't necessarily locked into a starting spot for 2025, and it's possible Julien could bring back more in a trade than he would offer the Twins next season. Julien slashed only .199/.292/.323 over 94 games during a disappointing 2024 campaign.
