2023 Fantasy Outlook
Morgan shifted to the bullpen last year after making 18 starts during a solid rookie campaign in 2021. The 26-year-old opened 2022 in long relief, but quickly ascended to high leverage work after month-long scoreless stretch, during which he compiled a 27:4 K:BB ratio and 0.50 WHIP over 20 innings. Morgan wasn't as sharp in the second half (4.26 ERA, 1.26 WHIP), but still managed five wins, 10 holds and an excellent 0.89 WHIP over a career-high 66.2 innings (50 appearances). Morgan's 28.1% strikeout and 5.1% walk rates were well above league average, while his 5.54 K/BB was 14th-best among qualified relievers. There is upside here from a pitcher who could have a flexible role throughout 2023, albeit without the name value of Tanner Houck or Garrett Whitlock. Read Past Outlooks

Handed first loss
Morgan (2-1) allowed one run on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning Thursday, taking the loss versus the Twins.
ANALYSIS
After a rough May in which Morgan was scored upon in five of his nine appearances, his June didn't get off to a better start. He loaded the bases with no outs before allowing a sacrifice fly by Willi Castro to bring in the decisive run. In addition to allowing too many runs in May, Morgan failed to record a save or a hold during the month, which suggests he's on the verge of losing what little high-leverage work he had. For the season, he still has a solid 1.93 ERA, but a 1.29 WHIP and a 3.58 FIP are both indicators that his numbers could regress further.
