2025 Fantasy Outlook
Rivera batted .214/.294/.269 with the Marlins over 97 games when he was designated for assignment in August. The Orioles claimed him off waivers, after which he played about half of the time, recording an impressive .313/.370/.578 line. Perhaps rejuvenated by playing for a competitive team, Rivera's average exit velocity increased almost four mph, fueling a .364 BABIP. His history suggests that this is unsustainable, but it likely earned Rivera a chance to win a bench job in the spring. He can play both corner infield spots, but the Orioles are well-stocked at both spots, so Rivera will have to earn a reserve role. Even if he does, playing time will be scant and his career .676 OPS suggests he won't approach last year's .948 mark in just 73 plate appearances after joining Baltimore. Read Past Outlooks

Set to lose playing time
Rivera is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Twins.
ANALYSIS
Rivera had started at third base in each of the last five games, but his playing time is likely to fall by the wayside with the Orioles bringing back Ramon Urias (hamstring) from the injured list. Expect Urias to handle the bulk of the starts at the hot corner moving forward, though the right-handed-hitting Rivera could still be a regular part of the lineup against left-handed pitching at either first or third base.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2023
Rivera's path to any fantasy viability took a hit when Arizona traded for Eugenio Suarez during the offseason. It was one thing for Rivera to serve as a backup to an aging Evan Longoria, but Suarez does not need much time off and Rivera could find his path to 300 plate appearances severely challenged as long as he remains with Arizona this season. He can handle both infield corner positions well and being out of options all but assures he remains with a club in that type of capacity for this season. He has never quite shown enough bat to profile as an everyday player and a career .247/.304/.380 line in 740 major league plate appearances reinforces that line of thought. His in-season flexibility is a nice resource for mono leagues but mixed league fantasy managers can safely overlook him

Mashing in limited sample
Rivera is slashing .348/.383/.461 through 94 MLB plate appearances this season. The 26-year-old is following up on dominant 2023 minor-league results, having slashed .348/.378/.591 across 16 Triple-A games.
ANALYSIS
Rivera has been impactful in 28 games for the Diamondbacks thus far, showing quality contact skills and no aversion to right-handed pitching. He's a candidate to step into a larger role down the stretch if these kind of results continue.
