2025 Fantasy Outlook
At the beginning of the year, it appeared Phillips would run away with primary closing duties for Los Angeles, as he held a 70 percent team save share through the end of April. However, a hamstring strain sidelined the right-hander for nearly one month and he struggled upon his return, carrying a 6.75 ERA and 1.55 WHIP from June 1 through the end of July. This prompted a change in the Dodgers' high-leverage approach, relegating Phillips to working earlier in games. He'd tally only three saves over the final two months of the campaign, finishing with 18 overall. The 30-year-old turned in his worst regular-season line since joining the Dodgers in 2021 - his 3.62 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 54.2 innings wasn't awful, but fell well short of expectations based on prior outputs. Phillips figures to continue seeing regular high-leverage opportunities in 2025. Read Past Outlooks
Should be ready for spring
President of baseball operations Andrew Friedman said Tuesday that Phillips (arm/shoulder) is feeling "fine" and should be ready to go for spring training, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Phillips dealt with arm fatigue during Game 6 of the NLCS and was left off the Dodgers' World Series roster as a result. He hasn't started up a throwing program since then, but it appears the team isn't concerned about his availability for the start of spring training and Opening Day. The 30-year-old righty turned in a 3.62 ERA and 1.19 WHIP across 54.2 innings in 2024 -- his worst regular-season line since joining the Dodgers in 2021 -- but he figures to continue seeing regular high-leverage opportunities in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Phillips was outstanding for the second year in a row, converting a career-high 24 saves while once again leading qualified relievers with a 0.83 WHIP. The 29-year-old only accounted for 54.5% of the Dodgers' 44 saves, but he was clearly their top reliever, earning save opportunities early in the season. While he did go long stretches without recording a save, Phillips was still valuable for fantasy purposes. He boosted ratios while striking out batters at a respectable 28.2% clip. His Statcast page is painted red, with a 115.1 mph (Max EV) rocket off the bat of Byron Buxton the only real blemish. Meanwhile, his 88.2 mph average exit velocity was still above-average (67th percentile). Phillips is establishing himself as one of the top high-leverage relievers in the game. If you could guarantee 30-plus saves, he'd likely be a top 5 closer, but since the Dodgers aren't exclusive with his usage in the 9th inning, he'll settle in the 10-15 range for 2024 drafts.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Part of closer committee?
Phillips could be a part of a closer committee for the Dodgers next year, opines Juan Toribio of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Phillips broke out in 2022 and produced a dominant season, posting a 1.14 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 77:15 K:BB in 63 innings. While he recorded two saves, he was primarily used in a setup role. The 28-year-old was equally effective against both righties and lefties and could take on a significant share of the responsibilities if he performs at a similar level next year.
