2025 Fantasy Outlook
If you squint really hard, you can see some shades of Ryan Yarbrough in Lopez. Both pitchers are soft-tossing lefties with unique arm angles relying on extension and guile in their efforts to be successful against opposing batters. Lopez has been able to use that skill rather effectively as a minor-leaguer with a 30.6 percent strikeout rate, but has been more hittable as a swingman in two different stints with the Rays over a short 22.2 inning sample size. Lopez has value to a club in a swingman type role or as a bulk pitcher if the rotation is impacted by injuries. He's likely to begin the season in a relief role but should have a clearer path to a starting job after being traded to the Athletics. Read Past Outlooks

Rough night in Toronto
Lopez (0-3) took the loss Thursday against the Blue Jays, allowing seven runs on six hits and a walk across 1.2 innings.
ANALYSIS
Lopez set the Jays down in order in the first inning, but it was a different story in the second when the left-hander allowed six runs, with five coming on a pair of homers. Lopez's ERA is now up to 6.32 after Thursday's outing. He's posted a 1.85 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB across 15.2 innings. Lopez currently lines up for a home matchup with the Twins next week, should the A's choose to give him another shot in the rotation.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Lopez began the season at Double-A Montgomery and finished it with four games on the big-league roster, which is a rarity for the Tampa Bay organization as it rarely promotes starting pitchers multiple levels in the same season. These actions were more based on necessity than merit given the season-ending injuries to 60 percent of the club's starting staff and the attrition of arms on the 40-man roster. Lopez climbed to Triple-A early in the 2023 season while striking out a bevy of lower-level hitters, mainly with a low-arm-slot slider. Experienced hitters in Triple-A were not as easily fooled nor were the major-league hitters as the strikeout rate cooled and the walk rate escalated. He still managed 96 strikeouts in 92 innings but best profiles as a swingman out of the bullpen, replacing the role Ryan Yarbrough and Josh Fleming held on the roster before him.
