2025 Fantasy Outlook
Young began the year with the Cardinals, playing for Triple-A Memphis. He was batting .284/.409/.505 when St. Louis transferred his contract to the Doosan Bears in the Korean Baseball Organization. Young posted a .326/.420/.660 line overseas. The Mets took notice, signing Young to a major league deal. He makes contact at an above average clip but doesn't hit the ball with much authority. The Mets would not have signed Young to an MLB deal if they didn't see something, but it's surely not to be their new regular at first base. Young is in play solely in NL-only formats, and even then, he's not likely to play enough to merit fantasy consideration. Read Past Outlooks

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
The Cubs removed Young from their 40-man roster last offseason, but he found his way back to the majors amidst a big year at Triple-A Iowa which saw him slash .310/.417/.577 with 21 home runs over 376 plate appearances. He cracked a couple more homers with the big club but was jettisoned from the 40-man roster again this winter and was scooped up on waivers by the rival Cardinals. Young can play the corner infield and outfield spots and has decent speed, although he's never been much of a base stealer. The 28-year-old took big steps forward with his power and walk rate in 2023, but given his age and the fact that he was in his third stint at Triple-A, it's fair to be dubious.
Young made his MLB debut in 2022 as a 27-year-old. He played in just six games, registering a .732 OPS across 19 at-bats. More telling was Young's stat line at the Triple-A level. In 109 contests for the Iowa Cubs, he posted a .724 OPS and blasted 17 home runs, which represented a new career best at any level. Young also displayed good versatility in the minors, as he split his time between first base, third base and the outfield. The ability to play multiple positions gives Young an outside shot to earn a bench role with Chicago to begin the 2023 season, though he's more likely to start with Iowa once again. At this point in his career, Young looks like the classic organizational depth player. He can fill out a bench in the majors if a need arises, but he's probably best suited for Triple-A. That doesn't leave Young with a ton of fantasy value at this point.
