2025 Fantasy Outlook
Scholtens probably would have made a bunch of starts for the feeble White Sox in 2024 had he been healthy, but the 30-year-old blew out his elbow and needed Tommy John surgery in early March. He could be in the mix for the rotation again in Chicago, once healthy, but a late start to the 2025 campaign is possible. Scholtens struck out around a batter per inning in the minors, but he had just a 15.4 percent strikeout rate with the big club in 2023 while splitting time between the rotation and bullpen. Elbow
February 12, 2025
The White Sox placed Scholtens (elbow) on the 60-day injured list Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Michael Taylor, whose signing was made official Wednesday. Scholtens had Tommy John surgery last March and will miss at least the first couple months of the 2025 season.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Scholtens maid the majors for the first time in 2023, appearing in 26 games and making 11 starts with a 5.29 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 58 strikeouts in 85 innings pitched. The right-hander ended the season with a calf injury, but will be ready for Spring Training. Old for a rookie at 29, Sholtens will now need to fend off rotation candidate additions in Jared Shuster and Michael Soroka or may be forced back into the bullpen or even a return to Triple-A. If he does crack the rotation the upside here seems hard to find as Scholtens gave up 100 hits and walked 30 batters in 2023 without coming close to a strikeout-per-inning.

Chance to start Monday
PChicago White Sox
May 21, 2023
Scholtens could be called up to start Monday against the Guardians after Mike Clevinger was placed on the injured list with wrist inflammation, per Vinnie Duber of AllCHGO.com.
ANALYSIS
Manager Pedro Grifol said earlier in the week that Scholtens would be the "next man up" when Chicago needed another starting pitcher, and there's now an opening in the rotation. The 29-year-old made two relief appearances for the White Sox in April, but he's now stretched out as a starter with Triple-A Charlotte and has a 3.99 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 42:11 K:BB across 38.1 innings.
