2025 Fantasy Outlook
Brito impressed while competing for a spot in the Padres' starting rotation during spring training last season, but nonetheless all 26 of his regular-season appearances came out of the bullpen. He wasn't particularly effective, compiling a 4.12 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 29:10 K:BB over 43.2 innings before being sent to the minors and eventually ending the campaign on the IL due to a right elbow strain. There's been no indication that the injury will impact Brito's availability for the start of spring training, and the right-hander could be among a number of hurlers in the mix for the rotation spot made available due to Joe Musgrove undergoing Tommy John surgery. For Brito to be more successful, though, he'll need to find a way to better fool hitters -- despite averaging 96.3 mph on his fastball last season, his chase rate (22.6 percent) and whiff rate (19.0 percent) were both well below average, leading to a subpar 15.7 percent strikeout rate. Shelved with forearm strain
The Padres placed Brito (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a right forearm strain.
ANALYSIS
Brito didn't make any appearances after Aug. 10 last season due to an elbow strain, and though he was cleared prior to spring training, he was shut down after experiencing diminished velocity and renewed soreness during a Cactus League appearance March 4. The Padres will wait and see how Brito responds to a period of rest and rehab, but given the recurring nature of his elbow/forearm issues, surgery could be in the forecast for the right-hander.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Brito earned a spot on the Yankees' 40-man roster last offeason, protecting him from the Rule 5 draft. The 25-year-old right-hander was reassigned to the minors early in camp, but an injury to Luis Severino opened up a spot in New York's Opening Day rotation that Brito was recalled to fill. The Dominican native impressed in his big-league debut, hurling five shuout frames. He'd go on to compile a respectable 4.28 ERA and 1.22 WHIP over 90.1 innings with nine wins and a save. While Brito's stats didn't jump off the page, he showed promise in a bulk relief role down the stretch. He may resume duties as a starter in 2024 now that he's with San Diego, who is currently thin on rotation arms, but his splits as a reliever (1.43 ERA, 0.85 WHIP) are far better than as a starter (6.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP).
