2024 Fantasy Outlook
Rodriguez was called up to the majors twice in 2023, but never received a plate appearance as a depth option in the infield capable of playing second base, third base and shortstop. The 22-year-old spent the majority of the season at Double-A Birmingham slashing .264/.297/.450 across 404 plate appearances. There is some fantasy appeal if you dig deep on the profile as Rodriguez hit 21 home runs across two levels in the minors to go along with 31 stolen bases while only being caught nine times. Rodriguez's path to playing time at the major league level remains difficult after the White Sox added multiple middle infield options in the off season. Read Past Outlooks

The weak AL Central is full of spots still up for grabs as camp begins, though the most interesting contest is probably the battle for the Twins' fifth starter job.

Version 1.0 of James Anderson's rookie hitter rankings for 2024 fantasy baseball leagues, in which Reds third baseman Noelvi Marte is vying for the top spot.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
For the second year in a row, Rodriguez got off to a cool start to the season and ended on fire, upping his prospect stock heading into the offseason. The 21-year-old middle infielder hit .300/.364/.459 with 10 home runs, 38 steals (81% success rate) and a 12.3 K% in his final 83 games at Double-A. He is prone to chasing, but he has above-average raw power and an 85.0 Contact%, so his physical abilities have covered up his weaknesses. Rodriguez's game has a chance to really play up in standard 5x5 roto, as he could hit for a high AVG with a mediocre OBP and a ton of speed if he gets regular work. Unfortunately, his middling OBP projection and fringe-average defense up the middle could relegate him to utility work on a first-division team. Rodriguez is on the 40-man roster, so it's possible he could get an audition in the majors sometime this summer.

On track for spring training
White Sox assistant general manager Chris Getz said that Rodriguez (hand) is on track to be ready for spring training, James Fegan of The Athletic reports. "There certainly wasn't a hotter hitter in our system than Jose Rodriguez right before breaking his hamate bone [in an Aug. 20 game]," Getz said. "He's doing normal baseball activities right now, and he'll do that for a little bit longer. But he undoubtedly will be ready to go in spring training and show us what he's capable of doing."
