2025 Fantasy Outlook
France dealt with a shoulder injury last spring training, and while he managed to avoid the injured list to start the season, it seemed like he was never healthy. The 30-year-old made five ineffective starts with the big club and another poor one after being optioned to Triple-A Round Rock before eventually having surgery in July to repair a torn capsule in his shoulder. France managed a 3.83 ERA in 2023 with Houston, but a 4.66 FIP told a better picture of his performance and now he's got a major surgery to come back from, which might not happen until 2026. Goes on 60-day injured list
The Astros placed France (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Thursday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The procedural move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster. France is not expected back until after the All-Star break while he recovers from July 1 surgery to repair a torn right shoulder capsule.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
France was called up for his major-league debut in early May and gave the Astros quite a boost in collecting a 2.75 ERA across 18 appearances (17 starts) through mid-August. A lack of swing and miss pointed to regression coming, though, and it hit hard in France's final six outings with a 7.94 ERA and 21:16 K:BB over 28.1 frames. In the minors, France fanned batters at a 29 percent rate but also walked batters at an alarming 11.1 percent rate. With the Astros, he cut the walks to a respectable 8.1 percent but saw his strikeout rate plummet to 17.4 percent. It's possible France could get those strikeouts up if he threw his changeup (.217 xwoBA) and curveball (.242 xwOBA) more, but his fastball was easily his most-used pitch and it got hammered (.421 xwOBA). The 28-year-old wouldn't seem to be guaranteed a rotation spot for 2024 and standard mixed-league value is unlikely even if he gets one.

Set to make MLB debut Saturday
France will make his MLB debut Saturday against the Mariners, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Astros are calling up the right-hander to bolster a rotation decimated by injuries. The latest blow is the season-ending injury of Luis Garcia, who is expected to undergo Tommy John surgery. A pitcher with experience both as a starter and reliever in the minors, France made 18 starts and 21 relief appearances at the Triple-A level since the start of the 2022 season. It's unclear if he'll stay in the active roster past Saturday.
