Shakes off ankle injury
OFBaltimore Orioles  AA
April 7, 2024
Fabian (ankle) started in right field and went 1-for-5 with a solo home run, a walk and an additional run Saturday in Double-A Bowie's 19-1 win over Reading.
ANALYSIS
Fabian exited early in Friday's season opener after tweaking his left ankle, but his presence in the lineup a day later suggests that his removal was merely precautionary. The 23-year-old outfielder is making his return to Bowie after he finished the 2023 campaign with the affiliate and slashed .176/.314/.399 over his 288 plate appearances at the Double-A level.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Orioles appear to be working their magic with Fabian, an ultra toolsy outfielder from Florida whose strikeout issues in college caused him to fall enough in the 2021 draft (40th overall to Boston) to go back to school before eventually signing with Baltimore for around $1 million after getting selected with the 67th overall pick last year. He hit .333/.455/.615 with three home runs, a 21.2 K% and a 19.2 BB% in 99 plate appearances across rookie ball, Single-A and High-A. Fabian's 79.5 Contact% in 10 games at Single-A is promising, and he didn't chase much at all, albeit as an older college draftee against weak low-level pitching. Baltimore tries to get their hitters to make good swing decisions, essentially swinging at pitches they can drive and laying off pitches they can't, and if Fabian can adhere to their wishes, he has the tools (plus power, above-average speed) to shoot up prospect rankings. He should add defensive value in center field or right field and hits right-handed, so there is a chance he can be an everyday player.
