Outrighted to minors
The Orioles outrighted Stoudt to Double-A Bowie on Wednesday after he cleared waivers, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Stoudt was moved off the 40-man roster last weekend, when the Orioles needed to clear spots for trade-deadline pickups Seranthony Dominguez and Cristian Pache. The 26-year-old right-hander was claimed off waivers from the Mariners on June 13 but hadn't seen any big-league action since joining the Orioles organization. Stoudt has produced a 4.63 ERA and 1.61 WHIP across his eight relief appearances with Bowie.

Two years removed from Tommy John elbow surgery, Stoudt was one of a handful of organizational starters to reach MLB during the 2023 season out of necessity. While at Triple-A Louisville, the right-hander's ability to find the strike zone regressed and keeping the ball in the park was an issue (2.2 HR/9). The control followed him to the majors in four appearances prior to the All-Star break, and Stoudt was passed over during the second half when Cincinnati needed reinforcements from the minors. The Reds took action to address the rotation during the offseason and have an array of depth arms, and Stoudt is not expected to compete for a spot on the MLB roster during spring training. Of note, he was transitioned to bullpen work for Louisville in September and ended the year with a scoreless 8.1 innings, which suggests a role change for the 26-year-old in 2024.

Cincinnati will add Stoudt to its 40-man roster by Tuesday, reports Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer.
ANALYSIS
The Reds needed to add Stoudt to the 40-man roster in order to keep him from being available in December's Rule 5 Draft. The 24-year-old produced a 4.70 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 3.22 K/BB in 111 innings between Double-A and Triple-A last year. He was much better after being acquired from Seattle in the deal that involved Luis Castillo, allowing just seven runs in 24 innings in seven starts. Stoudt is likely to return to Triple-A Louisville to begin the 2022 season but could make his way up to Cincinnati before the end of the year.
