2024 Fantasy Outlook
Did anyone have Raley stealing more bases in 2023 than Ozzie Albies, Jeremy Pena, or Adolis Garcia? Yea, that really happened. Not bad for a player who was out of options coming into camp and was nearly cut at the end of camp. Raley refused to let that happen, as he continued to hit becoming a more nimble version of Ji-Man Choi for the Rays as someone who could come in and generate offense against righties (133 wRC+, 17 homers) and play both first base and a corner outfield position. Raley is built like a tight end and is yet deceptively quick which is why the club permitted him to attempt 17 steals last season. He does have voluminous swing and miss in his game but is also quite capable of barreling up mistakes to all fields. His role in 2024 should be more of the same but the swing and miss in his game opens the door to more volatility in his outcomes than other players. Set expectations around 375-400 plate appearances, which takes him off mixed league draft plans. Read Past Outlooks
Comes to life in spring finale
Raley went 2-for-3 with a three-run double and a triple in a Cactus League tie with the Cubs on Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Raley's acquisition in the early-January Jose Caballero trade to the Rays was lauded at the time, given the 29-year-old's positional versatility and the fact he was coming off the best season of his career at the plate in 2023. However, an utterly forgettable start to Cactus League play that saw Raley go 1-for-23 over his first 10 exhibitions was the source of plenty of frustration. Nevertheless, Raley's bat came around over the latter portion of the Mariners' spring training slate, as he finished 6-for-17 with Sunday's two-bagger, triple and three RBI over his last six contests. Jesus Cano of MLB.com reports that Raley is expected to have a key reserve role this season and serve as a left-handed source of power, and he adds that manager Scott Servais never lost confidence in the offseason acquisition despite the early struggles. "He's really strong," Servais said. "You can see it even when he just misses them. He hits them high and he's going to be more consistent. I thought his at-bats were really good today."

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Close to being traded
The Mariners are nearing a trade to acquire Raley from the Rays in exchange for Jose Caballero, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Raley had a mini-breakout with Tampa Bay in 2023, slashing .249/.333/.490 with 19 home runs and 14 stolen bases over 406 plate appearances. The 29-year-old can play all three outfield spots as well as first base and, assuming the trade goes through, should be a regular for Seattle against right-handed pitching.

Raley seemed destined for a bigger major-league opportunity when he was traded from the Dodgers to the Rays shortly before Opening Day, but he wound up with the exact number of plate appearances (72) for the second year in a row and similar production, as well. He crushed the ball again at Triple-A, which should be expected since he was 27 at the time (now 28) and repeating the level for a third time. Raley has good raw power and has shown elite sprint speed in the majors, but he might not ever make enough contact for it to matter. He's out of options, so it could be make-or-break time.
