Sent to minor-league camp
The Twins optioned Raya to minor-league camp Sunday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
ANALYSIS
Raya had been slowed early in spring training after suffering a quadricep strain, but he was cleared to make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Red Sox. The 22-year-old right-hander was exceptionally wild in that outing, however, as he failed to record an out and was charged with five earned runs after hitting three batters and walking two others. He's expected to open the season in the rotation at Triple-A St. Paul.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
A 2020 fourth-round pick, Raya didn't pitch in 2021 due to a shoulder strain, but had an impressive pro debut last year. He's missed some time in 2022 as well, as one might surmise from his relatively thin innings total, but Raya has looked good when he's been on the mound. His fastball sits in the mid-to-high 90s and he has a quality curveball, slider and change as well, so the stuff is there for the 20-year-old to grow into a big-league starter. Durability will be the big question for Raya, but he's shown enough upside to make himself into a target for dynasty managers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Likely to join 40-man roster
Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic believes Raya will be added to the Twins' 40-man roster this offseason to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft.
ANALYSIS
The right-hander spent most of 2024 with Double-A Wichita and had a 4.06 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 92:42 K:BB across 88.2 innings, though he finished the campaign with a scoreless five-inning start for Triple-A St. Paul. Raya is expected to begin 2025 in St. Paul's rotation and still has plenty of upside given he just turned 22 years old in August.
