2025 Fantasy Outlook
Canterino missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He returned for spring training but suffered a rotator cuff strain in mid-March and missed the rest of the 2024 season. The 2019 second-round draft pick was a rising pitching prospect when last on the mound in 2022 as he posted a 1.83 ERA with a 13.2 K/9 in 34.1 innings at Double-A. The Twins plan to move him to the bullpen next season. He has some upside as a reliever as a result - if he can finally stay healthy. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Canterino missed the entire 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery. He returned for spring training but suffered a rotator cuff strain in mid-March and missed the rest of the season. It's a good sign he's started throwing again and it sounds like he'll be ready for spring training. The 2019 second-round draft pick was a rising pitching prospect when last on the mound in 2022 when he posted a 1.83 ERA with a 13.2 K/9 in 34.1 innings at Double-A. He has some upside as a reliever as a result -- if he can stay healthy.

2022
Canterino is working his way back from August 2022 Tommy John surgery. A 2019 second-round draft pick, he was a rising pitching prospect when last on the mound as he posted a 1.83 ERA with a 13.2 K/9 in 34.1 innings at Double-A. He'll likely begin the season at Double-A and be on a limited pitch count in the spring as he works his way back to full speed. Once fully healthy, he could advance quickly if he can reduce his walk rate (5.8 BB/9 at Double-A in 2022).
Canterino was sidelined last May with a right elbow strain. He returned in August but was soon shut down with the same injury. A second-round draft choice of the Twins in 2019 following a prolific three-year college career at Rice, Canterino leaned on a mid-90s fastball and two plus off-speed offerings to generate excellent results in his first taste of full-season ball in 2021. Between stops at Low-A Fort Myers and High-A Cedar Rapids, the 24-year-old right-hander struck out 45 batters over 23 innings and held opposing hitters to a .125 average. If healthy this spring, he could quickly move up to Double-A.
